What’s Christmas all about?

A survey conducted for the Bible Society reveals that most people confuse Bible Nativity with traditional misconceptions. 90% answered that there were three Wise Men - however, the Bible does not say how many (trick question, as there were three gifts. Some Christmas carols get it wrong!).

For to us a child is born,

And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,

Why a Candlelight Service?

No one really knows how candles came to be associated with Christmas.

But in the Bible, Jesus is often compared with light, giving us spiritual illumination. The Gospel of John starts by describing Jesus as a light shining in the darkness:

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:4-5 (NIV)

Later on in the Gospel of John, Jesus said that he was the light:

“I am the light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12 (NIV)

Are you walking your life in the light of Jesus?
